Mock Test
Australian Values
The core values every citizen is expected to understand and uphold. All 5 values questions on a mock test must be answered correctly to pass.
Why Australian Values Matter
Australia is a diverse nation, home to people from many different backgrounds, cultures, and religions. What unites us as a nation is our shared commitment to Australian values.
These values are based on freedom, respect, fairness, and equality of opportunity. When you become an Australian citizen, you make a pledge to uphold these values.

Freedom and Dignity
Australians value freedom—including freedom of speech, expression, association, and religion. We believe that everyone should be able to express their ideas and beliefs without fear.
However, these freedoms must be exercised peacefully and within the law.
We also believe in the dignity and worth of every person. Everyone should be treated with mutual respect and tolerance, regardless of their background, race, or religion. Disagreements should be resolved through discussion, never through violence or intimidation.

A Fair Go and Equality
A core Australian value is the concept of a fair go. This means that everyone should have a fair chance to succeed in life based on their own efforts, talents, and hard work.
In Australia, there are no formal class distinctions. What you achieve should not depend on your wealth, family background, or where you were born.
We also strongly believe in equality of opportunity for all. Men and women have equal rights in all aspects of life, including education, employment, and the law. Discrimination based on gender or race is unacceptable and illegal.

Democracy and the Rule of Law
Australians are committed to our system of parliamentary democracy. We believe that the power of the government comes from the people, and we value our right to elect our representatives.
Equally important is the rule of law. We believe that all Australians are equal under the law, and that everyone must obey the law.
No person, religious group, or cultural practice is above Australian law. If cultural or religious practices conflict with Australian law, the law must always prevail.

The Australian Citizenship Pledge
At your citizenship ceremony, you will make the Australian Citizenship Pledge. This is the final step in becoming an Australian citizen.
By making the Pledge, you are publicly declaring your loyalty to Australia and its people. You are promising to share our democratic beliefs, respect our rights and liberties, and uphold and obey the laws of Australia.
Making this commitment means you are joining the Australian family and taking on both the privileges and responsibilities of citizenship.
